Rock & pop bands (touring): Venues for touring bands in & around Stoke are: Britannia Stadium (very occasional large 'big name' concerts such as Elton John); The Sugarmill (400 capacity); Staffordshire University SU (1,700 capacity, but a NUS card is needed for entry); in Hanley; in Stoke town; Keele University (1,500 capacity? - enough to host the Pet Shop Boys and The Levellers in recent years); Queen's Theatre, Burslem (1,300 capacity); and the King's Hall in Stoke town which hosted All The Young in 2012. Our area has around 250 bands and singers who create original material. Creative Stoke can't keep up with ever-changing websites and Facebook addresses for local bands, so can't provide a directory for them. But those wanting a survey of the current scene should look at other local music listing websites such as: the stokegigs.co.uk site; BBC Stoke's Introducing from Stoke show (formerly Subculture); and the Stoke Sounds website. Local blogs regularly covering gigs and bands at March 2013 include Music Matters to Us and Radicals Rising. Note also the 6 Towns Radio "Independent & Unsigned Show".
