     ONE-DAY & SHORT COURSES

::  Potteries Museum & Art Gallery - is the main public gallery in the city. Occasionally has one-day and half-day creative workshops for adults.

::  New Victoria Theatre - in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The New Vic occasionally has practical drama workshops for beginning adult performers.

::   The AirSpace gallery in Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent, sometimes has training events aimed at Fine Arts graduates.

::   There are University of the Third Age branches in Alsager, Congleton, and Crewe.

::  The Threshing Barn - short crafts courses in the Staffordshire Moorlands.

::  Sew Kitch - can run workshops in felt making, jewellery making, card and scrapbook design, and cushion-making.

::  Anthony Forster's Art Classes - a private art tutor based in the Potteries.

     COLLEGES

::  Stoke Further Education College: Visual Arts & Media, Burslem, Stoke.

::  Newcastle-under-Lyme College - Faculty of Art and Creative Studies.

::  Leek College of FE & School of Art provide an Art Foundation Course. Also a 1-year Graphic Technology course. Leek is about eight miles from Stoke. Associated with the College is the Arts & Crafts gem, the Nicholson Institute of Leek - and by 2006 this will be complemented by a newly-built Leek Arts Centre.

:: Stoke-on-Trent Sixth Form College - based near Fenton, Stoke-on-Trent. As well as A-levels & similar, they also offer new evening courses for adults; such as Adobe Photoshop (Advanced), Making a Video, Book Keeping for Small Business, and more.

::  South Cheshire College is based in nearby Crewe. Offers courses in photography and creative software.

 

     UNIVERSITIES: Staffordshire University

::  Staffordshire University: School of Art & Design, Stoke-on-Trent. The 10th largest provider of art & design degrees in Britain, gaining an impressive national subject-review score of 22 out of 24. There are also various media and theatre degrees, including production degrees in animation and comics. Videogames production is taught at the Stafford campus. There are a range of postgraduate opportunities, with special strengths in community arts and in film-making. The various M.A. Creative Futures degrees offer a wide range of options.

     UNIVERSITIES: Other local universities

::  The University of Keele: a variety of undergrauate courses, including (at 2013) Film Studies, English, Creative Computing, Marketing, Music and Music Technologies, Creative Writing. Also a wealth of postgraduate research opportunities, with special strengths in ageing in relation to community arts. Some short-courses are also sometimes run in areas such as media production, and these are open to those outside the University.

::  Manchester Metropolitan University: Crewe campus: courses in Creative Arts, Electronic Music and Performance, and 3D and Product Design. MMU's Crewe campus is a short distance from Stoke-on-Trent, and also contains the Axis Arts Centre.

 

     VARIOUS

::  Nearby Wolverhampton has well-regarded short courses for animators, film-makers and scriptwriters at the Light House.

::  Skillset - offers training bursaries and advice for media professionals in the West Midlands.
